Optimizing Obesity Management in Women: Clinical Considerations Before, During, and After Pregnancy
Courtney Younglove, MD, FOMA, FACOG, DABOM
Founder/Medical Director
Heartland Weight Loss
Overland Park, Kansas
Maintaining a healthy weight before, during, and after pregnancy is critical for the long-term health of both the mother and baby. However, obesity management through the lens of pregnancy is complicated by the lack of established guidelines for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Current prescribing information for antiobesity medications (AOMs) states that people who are or intend to become pregnant should not use AOMs and may require a washout period before becoming pregnant. Obstetricians and gynecologists (OB/GYNs) are in a unique position to advise this patient population, but what exactly should they say?
To address that question and more, PeerView and experts in the field of obesity and women’s health are bringing an honest conversation right to your neighborhood. By the end, learners will have a better understanding of how to discuss obesity with people seeking to become pregnant, discuss healthy weight gain during pregnancy, and how to create personalized obesity management goals using realistic care
plans after pregnancy.

From Screening Through Treatment: Proactive Engagement of Patients in Team-Based Care for Postpartum Depression
Mary C. Kimmel, MD, PhD
Department of Psychiatry
Washington University School of Medicine
St. Louis, Missouri
Postpartum depression (PPD) is a serious psychiatric disorder that significantly increases the risk of maternal and infant morbidity and mortality. Optimal management of PPD begins with adequate screening for the signs and symptoms of PPD and early introduction of appropriate treatment based on individual patient needs. In 2023, the first oral medication was approved for the treatment of PPD, marking a significant advance for patients and their families. However, PPD continues to be underdiagnosed and undertreated in clinical practice, and there are significant barriers to effective care coordination and interdisciplinary team-based care.
This expert-led live program will feature foundational instruction designed to provide obstetricians and gynecologists (OB/GYNs) important knowledge and skills on how to recognize and diagnose PPD, and share strategies for reducing the perceived stigma of PPD with empathy and cultural sensitivity. Attendees will also hear the latest updates on the new PPD treatments, and learn how to incorporate the new treatments into individualized care plans in the context of interdisciplinary, team-based care.
